Critics have been outraged by a now-viral video of a white woman accusing a Black man of stealing her phone only to find it in her purse.
With the lead caption, “Karen truly pulled this at a Spencer’s. r@sism alive and strong,” the video posted on TikTok by user @fuxktdub on Monday, Dec. 6 has received over 2.1 million views.
The incident appeared to take place in an undisclosed Spencers store, and the video begins with the unidentified woman searching through her purse.
Another lady could be heard in the background asking the store clerk if he could help by dialing the accusing woman’s mobile number, despite the fact that she had refused to give them her number.
“9-1-6,” she started before saying that the Black man could have turned off the ringer. The woman from earlier joked that she might have wanted them to strip down to make sure they didn’t have her phone. As the clerk tried to calm everyone down, the woman began to go through her purse.
Despite the man emptying his pockets and exposing his vaporizer, karen persisted to swear the man took her phone. “I just stuck it right here,” the shopper explained. “You stepped right behind me and took it.”
The second woman, who appeared to be the man’s friend, attempted to persuade her to call her phone through the store clerk. During the conversation, the accuser had to be reminded that she still needed to reveal her phone number in order for her cellphone to be found.
When it was finally called, the woman apologized and explained that she had misplaced her phone due to misunderstanding. The two, however, would not accept her apologies and began to walk away, but not before hurling a farewell “f-ck” at the woman’s professions of regret.
Social media users had assumptions about what transpired between the woman and the couple, many of whom believed she knew she had found her phone long before she publicly admitted it.
One user inquired, “Does she have an Apple Watch?” “She could’ve literally pinged her phone from her watch ?!? People are wild.” “She didn’t wanna call her phone because she saw it in her bag and knew you were recording…smh,” claimed a second person.
A third person pointed out, “The way she was stalling tryna come up with a backup plan after she felt it in her purse.”
“Her face was so red because she found it in her bag,” added a fourth person. “And look at how she continues to lie even after she found it.”
