An Ethiopian student who went viral for carrying a bundle of firewood to his graduation as a gift to his mother has earned a job offer for his well-received gesture.
According to the BBC, Ephrem Belete stole the show at his Addis Ababa University graduation over the weekend. The computer science graduate is claimed to have carried the firewood to show his appreciation for his mother’s efforts to ensure his education.
Belete stated that his mother sobbed “happy tears” in reaction to his gesture. “I did this to give my mother credit.” “My story is one of millions of Ethiopians,” he added.
Belete’s video of thanks to his mother went viral in the Horn of Africa nation. People also praised him on social media.
On Monday, Ethiopia’s Information Network Security Agency offered Belete a position. The computer science graduate, on the other hand, declined the offer because he plans to pursue an endeavor targeted at Ethiopia’s youth.
According to the BBC, Addis Ababa mayor Adanech Abiebie also promised Belete’s mother a job and a two-bedroom house. Belete feels that his memorial to his mother will inspire young Ethiopians to help their families.
