High School In Texas Suspends Black Principal Accused Of Teaching Critical Race Theory

A Black Texas high school administrator has been placed on paid administrative leave after being accused of advocating Critical Race Theory (CRT). The superintendent of the Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District announced Dr. James Whitfield’s suspension as principal of Colleyville Heritage High School on Monday, according to NBC5.

Despite the fact that the reason for Whitfield’s suspension was not stated in an email sent to parents by Superintendent Robin Ryan, the announcement came more than a month after a man accused Whitfield of teaching critical race theory and “the conspiracy theory of systemic racism” during a school board meeting, according to The Washington Post.

Whitfield is the first Black principal at the high school, and he has disputed the allegations.

Whitfield posted on Facebook a few days after the meeting, “I can no longer keep my silence in the face of this hate, intolerance, racism, and prejudice.” “I am not the boogeyman of CRT (Critical Race Theory).” I am the first African American to serve as Principal at my present school in its 25-year existence, and I am acutely aware of how much dread this causes among a small minority who would want things to remain as they were.”

During the meeting in question, the individual called for the suspension principal’s removal and addressed him by name numerous times. However, it is against school board policy to mention people’s names during such sessions. Other meeting attendees publicly advocated for Whitfield’s dismissal and praised him.

After his suspension, Whitfield sent a statement to NBC5 saying, “I have done nothing wrong by anyone.” “I only decided to speak up after that man was allowed to mention my name at the board meeting. They went after me instead of speaking out against the behavior.”

This isn’t the first time Whitfield has been chastised by parents in the district. A parent apparently expressed her concern with a Facebook post of the Black principal and his wife celebrating their wedding anniversary in 2019. The parent’s complaint came not long after he was named principal.

In an email to the school system, the parent inquired, “Is this the Dr. Whitfield we want as an example for our students?” Whitfield recalled in a Facebook post. To avoid the situation becoming worse, the school district requested the Black principal to remove the photo.

Students swarmed around him to show their support despite the recent turmoil and calls for his dismissal.

Whitfield stated on Facebook, “I was not provided any clear justification for the decision and was not given a schedule about subsequent steps.” “I was simply informed it was in the district’s best interests.”

The question of whether or not to teach Critical Race Theory in schools has sparked heated controversy. Conservative politicians have aggressively opposed it, claiming that it will usher in the next generation of violent liberals who will destroy America. Donald Trump singled out CRT as a liberal agenda aimed to divide the United States in the latter months of his rocky presidency.

Whitfield told The Washington Post, “There is no validity to the CRT assertions.” “This group that has spoken out against me has an issue with inclusivity, diversity, and offering equal opportunities for all students.”
