A cop in upstate New York has been placed on administrative leave after punching a woman he was detaining in the throat, knocking her to the ground… and it was all caught on camera.
The DeWitt Police Department has released body camera footage stitched together to show what led up to the brawl inside an East Syracuse Walmart on July 4… where cops were summoned on complaints of women fighting inside and allegedly using pepper spray.
When the cop in question arrived — who has since been identified as Rory Spain — he attempted to separate the feuding parties… and ended up handcuffing the woman, he eventually hit, Tyreana Edmonds. Things got a little heated as he tried to lead her away.
In the footage, Edmonds appears to try to bite Officer Spain’s arm, following which he cocks his arm back and unloads on the front of her neck with his fist balled up. The punch hits, and Edmonds is thrown backward, landing hard on her back after absorbing the blow.
People recording nearby react angrily… and as they approach, Officer Spain urges them to leave. He and his colleagues detained her and those engaged in the previous brawl, and they are all facing several charges as a result.
Edmonds was also charged with 2nd-degree attempted assault on a police officer, presumably for what seemed to be her clawing at his skin. Officer Spain is on paid administrative leave while the department investigates… as is standard procedure.
