After camera evidence revealed a 4-year-old child being slammed to the ground and left to weep, two now-former daycare workers are facing assault and child endangerment charges.
The incident occurred on June 21 at Wilde Kingdom Early Learning Center in Fairfield, Ohio, when daycare provider James Ciolino is seen on the video apparently obtained only recently by Local 12 News abusing an unidentified girl.
Ciolino was supervising ten children when the little black girl walked away with another class. Ciolino reportedly shut his classroom door as former daycare worker Stephanie Miller called for him to come to get the child, as evidenced by the classroom video.
Miller then pushed the girl into the classroom by opening the door. That’s when Ciolino, who stands 6 feet tall and weighs 315 pounds, sat down and shoved the girl to the ground with both hands on her chest. She burst into tears almost immediately. Miller stood there doing nothing before closing the door and leaving.
Ciolino, according to the footage, did not attend to the girl right away, allowing her to wail for approximately a minute before taking her up by the waist and transporting her to the front desk. After the shoving, a third teacher entered the room and remained in the class.
After reviewing the video, which the school’s director, Lisa McMillion, told reporters happened the day of the event, both staff — who had only been working there for a month — were fired. “The video contains all of the necessary truth. “As soon as you see that or see that, you know exactly what needs to be done,” she stated.
“With that cry, you just know something isn’t right,” McMillion explained. “As a mom, you know when something isn’t right. As a director, I’m familiar with all of those kids and how they cry.”
Ernestine Pumah, the mother of the young child, expressed her displeasure, despite the fact that her daughter is doing well. “I sobbed. I couldn’t take it anymore.
She remarked, “I was very heartbroken.”
“He just pushed her away like an animal,” she said. You push a little baby who knows nothing, who only knows how to play, eat, and sleep down on her chest, and she lies down crying, while you continue to do what you were doing. She went on to say, “What a heartless man.” Both individuals were charged by McMillion. They were eventually apprehended.
Ciolino has been charged with assault and child endangerment, and Miller has been charged with child endangerment. Both have entered not guilty pleas and are scheduled to stand trial in December.
